About Bennett’s Carpet
In 1968, Ivan and Rena Bennett shared a dream to build a successful business that would help satisfy the needs of their growing family and provide a positive contribution to the community. In the beginning Rena sold product out of the family garage while Ivan worked a full time job in Louisville, Kentucky. Ivan would then install those products at night and on weekends. The company grew steadily with almost all their advertising coming from word of mouth of satisfied customers.
As the company grew, so did their children. Ivan and Rena hoped to use the business to create a launching point for their children’s careers. Over time, all the Bennett children would provide different critical functions that allowed the company to continue its growth.
The oldest son, Steve, became the commercial manager soon after Ivan partnered to form I & R Construction. John became the company’s Treasurer and residential manager and remains active today. Daughter Susan utilized her talent for numbers to handle the company’s books. Youngest daughter, Alisa, utilizes her business skill in her current position of Commercial Controller.
Ivan and Rena’s ambition allowed what was once a small family owned and operated business to become one of the largest residential and commercial interior finishes companies in South-central Kentucky. Today Bennett’s Carpets employs over 80 employees and continues to expand its coverage of the state.
The company’s success can be traced back to their core beliefs. First and foremost is the belief that only through the blessings of our Lord has this success been possible. Second in its importance is the belief that without their customers’ and community’s support the company would not have had an opportunity to succeed.
In 1999, Bennett’s Carpets partnered with Mohawk Industries, the second largest carpet manufacturer in the world, to launch an exclusive program. It was at that point that Bennett’s became the area’s only Floorscape dealer, an exclusive membership even today.
Floorscape is a unique store environment designed to make shopping for carpet and other floor covering easy and convenient for customers, as well as a more “fashionable” experience and is the direct result of over a year of research and customer focus groups. Most important is the fact that that the store is organized the way that customers like to shop- by style, color, and design- with products performance-rated according to their lifestyle.
Shortly thereafter, Bennett’s teamed with Glidden paint to market a full selection of quality paints and paint supplies. Through the use of today’s technology, Bennett’s is able to match virtually any color providing the customer the exact shade to make their home their own private showcase.
